William Forsythe

est né à New York City en 1949. Il étudie la danse à l´Université de Jacksonville, Floride, et plus tard à l´Ecole de Ballet Joffrey. En 1973 Forsythe intègre le Ballet de Stuttgart comme danseur et ensuite commence à chorégraphier pour la compagnie.

Au cours des sept années qui suivent, Forsythe crée plus de 20 chorégraphies pour le Ballet de Stuttgart et pour d'autres compagnies - le Ballet de Bâle, le Ballet de Munich, le Ballet du Deutsche Oper à Berlin, le Ballet Joffrey et le Nederlands Dans Theater. L´une des oeuvres les plus célèbres de Forsythe de cette période est Side 2-Love Songs, qui a été filmé pour la télévision. 

En 1984, un an après la création de Gänge, William Forsythe est nommé directeur du Ballet de Francfort. Depuis, Forsythe a développé une esthétique unique du ballet qui ne renie pas la technique traditionnelle mais qui à la fois déconstruit/reconstruit, en élargissant et défiant le lexique.

Forsythe continue de mettre en scène des productions pour plusieurs compagnies autour du monde. Ses oeuvres sont inscrites dans les répertoires du Ballet de New York City, du Ballet de San Francisco, du Ballet National de Canada, du Ballet Royal de Covent Garden, du Ballet Royal Suédois entre autres. Ces oeuvres focalisent surtout sur la danse classique. En janvier 1999, Forsythe est aussi nommé directeur du Theater am Turm/TAT (Frankfurt am Main).

La Journée Internationale de la Danse

Historique

La Journée Internationale de la Danse a été instaurée en 1982 à l´initiative du Comité de Danse International de l´Institut International du Théâtre (IIT – UNESCO). La date choisie pour féter la journée est le 29 avril, date de l´anniversaire de la naissance de Jean-Georges  Noverre (1727-1810), créateur du ballet moderne.

Chaque année un message international rédigé par une personnalité de la danse mondialement connue, est diffusé. Les objectifs de la Journée Internationale de la Danse et du Message sont de réunir le monde de la danse, rendre hommage à la danse, célébrer son universalité et, franchissant toutes les barrières politiques, culturelles et ethniques, rassembler l´humanité toute entière en amitié et paix autour de la Danse, langage universel.

En 1995, au nom de l’unité de la danse, le Comité de Danse International de l´IIT - UNESCO s´est engagé dans un effort collaboratif à célébrer la Journée Internationale de la Danse avec l´Alliance Mondiale de la Danse.

William Forsythe

was born in New York City in 1949. He studied dance at Jacksonville University, Florida and later at the Joffrey Ballet School. In 1973 Forsythe joined Germany´s Stuttgart Ballet as a dancer, and later began choreographing for the company.

Over the next seven years Forsythe created over 20 ballets for the Stuttgart Ballet and other companies, including the Basel Ballet, Munich Ballet, the Deutsche Oper Ballet in Berlin, the Joffrey Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater. One of Forsythe´s best known works from this period is Side 2-Love Songs, which was later filmed for television.

In 1984 Forsythe became the director of Ballett Frankfurt, a year after creating Gänge. Since this time, Forsythe has developed a unique ballet aesthetic which does not deny traditional ballet technique, but which both deconstructs/constructs, broadening and challenging the lexicon.

Forsythe continues to stage pieces for companies around the globe. His work is in the repertory of New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, Royal Swedish Ballet, among others. These works tend to focus primarily on ballet dancing. In January 1999 Forsythe also became director of Theater am Turm/TAT (Frankfurt am Main).

International Dance Day

Background

In 1982 the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI – UNESCO), founded International Dance Day to be celebrated every year on the 29th of April. The date commemorates the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who was born in 1727 and was a great reformer of dance.

Every year a message from a well known dance personality is circulated throughout the world. The intention of International Dance Day and the Message is to bring all dance together on this day, to celebrate this art form and revel in its universality, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together in peace and friendship with a common language - Dance.

In 1995, in an effort to unite dance, the International Dance Committee, ITI - UNESCO entered into a collaborative effort for the celebration of International Dance Day with World Dance Alliance.

ALICIA ALONSO's Botschaft:

"As we start the new millenium, the art of dance is experiencing a time of
great splendor and perhaps the highest level of development of its long
history. The rich inheritance of the past unites with the creativity of the present.

There is also an inexhaustible source of dance in the social
dances and folklore of people in many diverse cultures.

There is no art form foreign to dance.
However in many respects dance has not been given the place it deserves
among the significant cultural events of the times. I believe that now
dancers, choreographers, professors, critics, and other professionals in
this field must strive for the universal recognition that dance deserves.
To accomplish this goal the bridges of mutual respect and understanding
among the various performing styles must be strengthened. Respect for the
tradition, conservation and development of historical dance -- of both the
19th and 20th centuries -- should complement and support the new and
experimental styles. The old and new are two parts of the same creative
body. Development of dance requires renewed interest in the areas of

history, esthetics, and philosophy in order to create an integrated balance
between the art of performance and the intellectual ideas of its creators.
In the new century dance must strengthen its presence in the cultural life
of the community, establish academic credentials on the university level,
and obtain greater recognition on the institutional and state levels. To
accomplish this we must have talent, dedication and , above all, a great
love for our art.
On an occasion as special as this one I want to wish great success to the
dance world in completing these urgent tasks. May our dreams be a beautiful
reality in the 21st century."

„Am Anfang des neuen Millenniums erlebt die Kunstform Tanz eine Zeit grössten Glanzes und vielleicht der höchsten Entwicklung in ihrer langen Geschichte. Es ist die Zeit in der sich das reiche Erbe der Vergangenheit mit der Kreativität der Moderne verbindet. Gesellschaftstanz und Folklore von vielfältigen Kulturen stellen eine unerschöpfliche Quelle für den Tanz dar. Es gibt keine Kunstform die dem Tanz fremd ist.

Andererseits wurde dem Tanz in vielerlei Hinsicht nicht der Platz eingeräumt, unter den bedeutungsvollen kulturellen Anlässen unserer Zeit, den er verdient. Ich glaube, dass jetzt Tänzer, Choreographen, Professoren, Kritiker und andere auf diesem Gebiet tätige Berufsleute, sich um die globale Anerkennung, die dem Tanz gebührt, bemühen müssen. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, müssen die Brücken des gegenseitigen Respektes und Verständnisses zwischen den verschiedenen Aufführungsstilen gestärkt werden. Respekt für die Tradition, Erhaltung und Entwicklung des historischen Tanzes des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts, sollte die neuen und experimentellen Stile ergänzen und unterstützen. Das Alte und das Neue sind zwei Teile des gleichen kreativen Körpers. Die Entwicklung des Tanzes benötigt ein verstärktes Interesse in den Gebieten der Geschichte, Ästhetik und Philosophie um ein Gleichgewicht zwischen der Bühnenkunst und den intellektuellen Ideen ihrer Schöpfer zu schaffen. Im neuen Jahrhundert muss der Tanz seine Präsenz im kulturellen Leben der Gemeinschaft stärken, akademische Massstäbe auf der Universitätsebene etablieren, und grössere Anerkennung auf institutioneller und staatlicher Ebene erreichen. Um dies zu erreichen müssen wir Talent, Hingabe und vor allem eine grosse Liebe für unsere Kunst haben.

Zu diesem speziellen Anlass möchte ich der Tanzwelt grossen Erfolg wünschen bei der Vollendung dieser wichtigen Aufgaben. Mögen unsere Träume im 21. Jahrhundert wunderschöne Realität sein.“

Botschaft zum Welttanztag, 29. April 1999

On a momentous occasion such as this, International Dance Day, I fail to find adequate words that can touch the heights of this fine art, Dance.
Perhaps the best way for one to express those feelings would be ... to dance.

With this Message from Egypt, I pay tribute to all those who have devoted their lives to this most refined art. It is a great honour for me to include myself as one of them. I earnestly hope that the coming millenium will see the flourishing of all arts and in particular - Dance.

Bei einem so außerordentlichen Anlass, wie dem Welttanztag fehlen mir die Worte, mit denen ich der Tanzkunst gerecht werden könnte. Um seine Gefühle auszudrücken, würde man bei dieser Gelegenheit vielleicht am besten ·tanzen!

Mit dieser Botschaft  zolle ich all jenen Tribut, die ihr Leben dieser hochentwickelten Kunst gewidmet haben. Dass ich mich dazuzählen darf, empfinde ich als grosse Ehre. Ich hoffe sehr, dass im nächsten Jahrtausend alle Kunstformen eine hohe Blüte erreichen werden  ­ und ganz besonders derTanz.
Mahmoud Reda ­ zur Biographie Mahmoud Reda (Ägypten) wurde vom Internationalen Tanz Komitee des ITI eingeladen, die Botschaft für den Welttanztag 1999 zu schreiben.

Mahmoud Reda wurde am 18. März 1930 in Kairo, Ägypten geboren. Er ist ein Pionier des ägyptischen Tanztheaters. 1959 gründete er die erste Volkstanz Kompanie «The Reda Troupe», um Ägyptens reiches tänzerisches Erbe in theatralischer Form präsentieren zu können. Als Solist, Choreograph und Regisseur von hunderten von Produktionen hat Mahmoud Reda in über 60 Ländern gespielt und trat auf den wichtigsten Bühnen der Welt auf. Er war auch Hauptdarsteller, Tänzer und Choreograph in namhaften ägyptischen Filmen.

Mahmoud Reda hat ein Handelsdiplom der Universität von Kairo. Von 1982 bis 1990 war er Kulturminister. Er hat unter anderem das Buch In the Temple of Dance veröffentlicht.
